Fibre to Polyester Fabric,Fabric Strips to Polyester Tote Bag

I am going to convert a piece of brown polyester cloth into a crocheted tote bag.

First I cut the cloth into strips of half inch wide. The length is not fixed and it can be as long as possible because the strips are going to be the fibre for crocheting.  They have to be joined up to make a long string. A piece of 1m cloth is sufficient to make a fairly large bag.

You can make several granny squares and then join them up to form a bag shape.  You have to be creative here.

The picture shown here is the half completed circular base of a cylindrical tote bag with drawstrings at the top.  Note the size of the needle.  It is size 6 and also note the end of the strip to be joined to another to continue the crochet.

I will not make a very big bag because I don't want to carry a heavy bag.  It is going to be heavier if the strips are big.  It is better to put a lining and for that we have to machine sew a bag of cloth of matching colour and then sew on to the finished work.

Will post again to show the progress.  Go and get the polyester cloth and start cutting them into strips. Use a good and sharp pair of scissors and that will make your job easier. They need not be perfectly straight or equal.  The cloth is only RM2 to 3 a meter.  The needle costs RM2.50.  The cost is very low.  All you need is to spend some time.  It is something different from the usual rug we make.

You can buy 2 colours.    It will turn out to be very unique .  You can make many creations, uniquely yours.  Polyester cloth is good to work with because it is stretchable, but do not overstretch it.  If you overstretch it, it will become thin and can break easily.
You will learn about it when you try and play with it..
